Study: Who’s On Which Social Nets

Marketers that are frustrated with targeting specific age groups or demographics in Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and LinkedIn could glean insight from a recent study by Anderson Analytics.
The study suggests that Twitter has become more popular than LinkedIn, more than half of U.S. consumers who tap social networks belong to more than one, and that those who belong to a social net are four times more vocal about products and services than those who don’t.
Anderson Analytics CEO Tom Anderson says the biggest surprise from the study reveals that Twitter has become …

Constructon Zones, Chapter 1

I work with a couple of radio stations in South Florida one of them being a sports station WFTL 6-40 Sports.
The station recently hired a new GM and it turned out to be Dave Manning who I knew years ago. I oftened wondered what had happened to him.
Seeing him again brought back some fun memories of the time I first met him in Nashville. The only down side to seeing him again was he still has all that damn hair.
During my consulting career I’ve had a few stations turned over …

Disney Unlocks Magic Kingdom of Online Advertising

Disney are conducting detailed research to monitor the effectiveness of online advertising in order to learn more about how consumers react when they see different adverts online.
The company is due to make a presentation today to 200 advertising executives in New York on the findings of its consumer research. Dr Duane Varan, the leader of the Disney study told The New York Times: “Everybody is still shooting in the dark,” when it comes to online marketing, “We’re trying to turn on the lights.”
Whilst there is certainly quite a …

Apple Rejects Official Google Voice iPhone App

Now we know why Google Voice apps were only released for BlackBerry and Android. Apple rejected Google’s official Google Voice app when it was submitted for approval six weeks ago. What. The. Shit.
Here’s the quote from the Google spokesperson to TechCrunch:
“We work hard to bring Google applications to a number of mobile platforms, including the iPhone. Apple did not approve the Google Voice application we submitted six weeks ago to the Apple App Store. We will continue to work to bring our services to iPhone users …

A New Day for Radio

Back in the late 90’s I began work as a New Business Development director for a pair of start-up Smooth Jazz radio stations (it was a glorified title given to me by the owner of the stations that translated into a Production Director that worked with sales people on ideas to generate new direct business). At the time, I had devised a plan that was less than “sexy” but highly effective: spec spots. The goal was to add $250,000 in new business on top of the 1.2 million the station …

Proof Positive that These Non Traditional Revenue (NTR) Programs Deliver

THERE’S A SECRET THAT WE WANT TO SHARE
During my recent travels I have uncovered several NTR programs that are making stations a lot of money. These stations are combining the power of on-air and incorporating it with online search to deliver client results and substantial station revenue.
Stations throughout the country are generating substantial revenue that in many cases is helping them outperform their competitors that have higher ratings. One general manager said, “while traditional advertising is
slowing- specialized NTR programs are proliferating- and google loves them.”
If you are still …

Subliminal advertising and original thought

Subliminal advertising has come of age. Naked ladies in Playboy ice cubes, subtle reflections in car windows, and one-frame flickers of popcorn and political candidates have been illegal since the sixties, and yet they still exist.
Mind control techniques have taken many forms throughout history, from hypnotic speeches, instilled social stigmas, stained glass, to trenchant laws. Today, persuasive techniques are main-stream.
So cleverly done, fake news, designer propaganda, and buyer-seller scripts are in wide use by both government and corporations… Selling you something is the primary motivation, whether it is a car, …

Ad Spending Confidence Rebounds, Improves For Most Major Media

Economic pessimism among marketers and agency media buyers appears to have bottomed out last spring and their ad spending plans are trending upward for most major media, according to the most recent data from an every-other-monthly tracking report surveying the “advertising confidence” of key media decision-makers. The latest Advertiser Optimism Report, being released this week by Advertiser Perceptions Inc., shows plans are improving for every medium except for local newspapers, and that digital media such as online and mobile advertising are indexing well on the optimistic side of advertising spending …

Robots to Advertise on the Moon

It’s one giant leap for robot-kind. New Shadow Shaping technology creates images on the Moon that can be seen from Earth. Robots are used to create several small ridges in the lunar dust over large areas that capture shadows and shape them to form logos, domains names, memorials or even portraits. Talk about the Man in the Moon! You can even carve your initials in a heart to impress your sweetheart.
The advertising potential is mind-boggling. Never in history have companies been able to penetrate every market on Earth, reach every …

A Little Life And A Lot Of Radio!

The life rule has always been … Men are soft when they are hard and hard when they are soft.
Michael never got to be a Kid, now he doesn’t get to be a Senior either.
I remember years ago attending a Sandusky Radio seminar in Phoenix. At the time they seemed to have stations every where in America and their newest one in Kansas City had been turned over to me a few months before to become the 2nd CLASS/CLASSY station in America.
The GM, Steve Dinkel and I were sitting …
